Like an old lover coming back for more
The freelance life lends itself to the mundanities of the electronic world: the tap-tap of keys, queries sent by e-mail, cut and paste, delete and insert. But today, I did something bold and unexpected: I printed out my 42-page document, whipped out my red pen, and went to town. I love my red pen. I love making editor's marks: the insert caret, the bold red slash of delete, the sweet duo of delete and close-up. I've missed that these last few months; I'm good at finding random, tiny mistakes and pointing them out to the world. Also, there's something deeply satisfying about seeing a page all marked up with red. You just don't get the same feeling from sending back a Word file, all fixed and neat, and you know, typed.
