Overtime is not good for my health
Jesus. By the time Gostkowski finally kicked it through the uprights, my heart was racing and I was rocking on the sofa. Then, when the win was secured, I clapped my hands together so hard, I still have red marks. (I'd say I don't know my own strength, but I've been noted for being freakishly strong for awhile now, so that would be a total lie.) The point is this: Patriots win! F-ing Ravens can suck it.

Our teams are very special
That was a fan-fucking-tastic football game, and yes, I am totally saying that because the Patriots won it, 41-14. It's also a significant moment in my life, because tonight is the night I say goodbye to fantasy football. Sure, it's only four games into the season, but I've lost every week. And this week? This week I lost by .5 points. That's right: 0.5 fucking points. And when I realized that (moments after an awesometastic beatdown by my boys), I was pissed. Why couldn't Tommy have thrown for 10 more yards? Welker caught two more passes? Well, no more. That's bullshit. I'm sure fantasy must be fun for some crazy bitches out there, but not for me. I'm not letting some made-up team ruin the joy of an ass-kicking in Miami -- because, let's face it, they don't come along that often. Plus, I totally need to savor this for two whole weeks -- perhaps three, as after next week's bye, they face the f-ing Ravens. Ugh.

Resignation
I knew we didn't have the greatest team this year. Tommy was still recovering, our defense was porous, and our running game was inconsistent. And we lost Welker last week. However, I did not expect this. And while it was painful to watch (and yes, I sat through the whole thing), I was not surprised. (Okay, after the first quarter, I wasn't surprised.) We didn't have it this year. At least we didn't have to lose to the Colts or the Chargers in the playoffs -- by exiting today, we saved ourselves that misery.
It's time to move on, repair Welker's knee and then encase it in bubble wrap, and kill 'em next year. Until then, I say: Spring training is just around the corner. Now, why the fuck did Epstein sign Beltre for $9M?

Numerology
How did it get to be 03/09 already? Seriously? March? Wasn't it just Christmas? Back when the world was sunny, the Pats still had Vrabes, and the Orange Crush was still crushing? Okay, technically, it has been sunny here the last few days when back East they got a foot of snow, so I can't really complain. Though I do kind of miss snow days. And I will definitely miss Mike Vrabel, especially when he would line up on offense in the red zone, and the other team never realized that Brady was totally going to throw to him. Like 99.97 percent of the time. At least Tommy will be back this season -- and, I'm assured, there will be at least 10 feet between him and any opposing player at all times. Right, O-line?

We're going to the Super Bowl
Goddamn, that was sweet! Ugly as hell at times, but a win is a win. And I'll take 18-0 any day (and twice on Sundays).
Go Pats!

By the numbers
The Pats whomped the Bengals, 34-13, last night for their fourth win. Tommy boy threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Randy Moss caught nine passes for a 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Twenty-five men on the Sox roster for the first round against the Angels. One cortisone shot to Wake, who's out -- for now.
1,770 posts as of today, only 3/4 of which are about the Sox or the Pats, but who's counting?

Are you ready for some football?
I am, as long as the Pats keep playing like that. Ellis Hobbs breaking the NFL record for longest kickoff return? Awesome. Tom Brady firing missiles to Randy Moss? Spectacular. Vrabel, Green, and Warren combining for five sacks? Kick ass. Spanking the Jets 38-14? Fucking priceless.
Just like that for next week, boys.

Looking forward, back
On the day that the last Sox game of the season was delayed by rain, the Patriots pulled off a big win at Cincinnati. Did they know we needed it? Did they know I couldn't get out of my comfy pants and I didn't even bother to wash my hair, but instead covered it with my Pats hat (pulled low in dejection over a certain loss to the seemingly superior Bengals)? Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. Maybe they were pissed after last week's debacle. Maybe Cincinnati really does have no rush defense. Or maybe the boys just pulled yet another rabbit out of their hat, and kicked ass and took names. Sacks. Fumble recoveries. Touchdowns. You name it, they had it. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but they looked good. The tandem of Dillon/Maroney is giving me chills of anticipation.
I'm sad to see the boys of summer say goodbye, but I'm eager to see what fall brings.

When all else fails, blog
I can't sleep, due in large part to far too much Mountain Dew and far too much sports viewing. Washington won tonight, which is just amazing. My boys beat the Colts, and I don't know why, but I love beating Indy. Maybe it's because I hate Peyton Manning. Yeah, I think that's it. I just want to smack him every time I see him. But I'll take McGinest sacking him at the end of the game instead. Tragically, the Sox lost, but they had no chance tonight. F-ing SI goes and ruins our winning streak every time.
The point of all this is, of course, that I have no point. I spent the better part of my afternoon talking about blogging, and that usually makes me want to blog. But not today. I feel like I have September malaise, and I really, really need to snap out of it.
