All consumed

Do you ever feel like the stuff you're consuming is consuming you? I just finished The Dive From Clausen's Pier, which features a somewhat weak-willed, indecisive female protagonist, adrift in her own life. The writing was excellent, don't get me wrong, and I really enjoyed the book, but she was a frustrating central character. I moved on to The Anxiety of Everyday Objects, looking for something a little less heavy, but found a central character without drive or focus -- adrift in her own life. I'm sensing a disturbing trend here, people. But then this morning, I listened to my latest CD purchase, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and as Miranda Lambert sang of meeting her abusive boyfriend with her loaded shotgun, I knew all was right with the world. Or at least with me.
