I've been on a mystery/horror kick lately, with mixed results. I loved Sue Grafton's latest, U is for Undertow. I've been a pretty faithful fan to the franchise, but I'll admit it's had its peaks and valleys. This installment was a return to the Kinsey I know and love: smart, dogged, and always in the right place at the wrong time. I also just finished The Wasp Factory. Someone recommended it to me awhile back, and I wish I could remember who, because I'd smack them. Blech. And not just because of scenes with bunny and wasp torture, but it didn't seem to have much point. I'm sure I just don't get it, but I really don't want to. Luckily, it was short (though it took me twice as long to finish than much heftier books).
And now I'm right in the middle of the latest Scarpetta book (another series which I was ready to write off, until Cornwell pulled me back in), and I'm enjoying it. Though not as much as I'm enjoying anticipating finishing it, so I can justify running out and buying the latest Lynley mystery. Seriously, people, I'm having some kind of weird, get-in-touch-with-your-twisted-inner-soul moments right now. Perhaps I should stop reading about murder so much. No way. Tana French has a new book coming out in July. Pre-order!

Have you read "Heat Wave" yet by "Richard Castle"? It's been on the shelves for a while (this is quite possibly one of my favorite marketing techniques ever).
I picked up T and U last week. I stopped reading the series for years, right around when N came out, I think. But sometime last year I got back into it and it felt good returning to a familiar character. Kinsey has never been my favorite but I can usually count on Grafton to entertain me for a day or two. Gotta appreciate that.
I agree with you on Cornwell too. The whole detour to FL (was it FL, who remembers?) was sad. Looking forward to reading the next one. Gotta wait till August though. :-/ I don't buy paperbacks. See, this is why I should look into getting a library card. hmm....
I have tried to read several books by Iain Banks (including I think the Wasp Factory). I just canNOT get through them. Way too much internal mental meandering in a "this SHOULD seem philosophical to you and if it doesn't, you're a moron" tone.
i'm v. excited about Tana French's new one though!
