I think my next book is going to be David Copperfield. Sure, I've got many (many) newer books to choose from, but why not dip into the classics? Also, Hornby made it sound like a really good book.
This may be the path to folly (or a year-long adventure), but Dickens is usually very readable. It's not like I'm going to pick up another Eliot tome. Or Bleak House. (Although I hear that's pretty good, too...)
